Video editing and SCORM in eLearning

Image
One of the benefits of eLearning is how it can cater to a wide variety of learning styles and needs. The use of videos really brings lessons to life and helps to engage the audience.      Here are some tips to help prepare for video production:      1.  Outline the content to be included in the eLearning video. Begin by making a detailed outline of what the eLearning video should include, all the  visual elements  that are absolutely necessary in order to convey your message, as well as the activities to be included in your eLearning video.     2.  Match your video to the eLearning content. One of the most challenging aspects of integrating a video into your eLearning course is to figure out how it can most effectively serve the end learning objectives or goals. At which specific point of the eLearning course do you plan to incorporate it? Which specific objectives does it cover? While an enterta...

The ins and outs of creating elearning

Image
The world of eLearning has quickly become a part of our day-to-day lives. Just today, I signed up for a online professional development training for this summer on how to organize my classroom better. As a teacher living in rural West Texas, I find eLearning wonderful! It's nice to be able to save some fuel money, and get the training, or learning, I need right from my classroom.      However, if a person were to design an eLearning course, it's easy to feel inundated with the number of educational applications out there. The sheer amount can be overwhelming, and a person can struggle with not only selecting the right tool, or software, but also how to utilize the tool, or software, for their purpose.       An e-learning authoring tool is a software that enables you to create learning content and share it with your learners. Just as you might use Microsoft Word to write up documents or Microsoft PowerPoint for presentation slides, y...

AI & Education: Working Together

Image
I am fascinated about all the new AI (artificial intelligence) tools that are coming out. I am an optimist when it comes to this new technology. I feel that we should embrace AI and learn to work with it instead of working against it, which is why I want to learn so much about it.      Matthew Lynch, one of the leading writers on the benefits of artificial intelligence in education, states "AI does not detract from classroom instruction but enhances it in many ways" (University of San Diego).       Artificial Intelligence is becoming an increasingly important part of our daily lives, and it has the potential to revolutionize the way we work, communicate, and learn. In education, AI has the potential to provide students with a more personalized and engaging learning experience and to help teachers more effectively meet the needs of each student (Melo, 2023).    YouTube: Sal Khan  How AI Could Save (Not Destroy) Education Ben...

Map it out: Storyboards and Podcasts

Image
I teach broadcasting in high school and the use of a storyboard is fundamental to any project we work on. Most of my students get frustrated when I tell them to storyboard, but in the end they figure out it was needed.  What is a storyboard?     A storyboard is a drawing that represents the idea of what you think you would like your scripted shots to look like.      Generally, they are put together on a paper that has several small squares for you to draw your shots in.      Often, there are lines below each box to allow the artist or director to write out dialogue or screen directions.  (Journalism Education Association) (Journalism Education Association) Reasons to storyboard Visualize your shots - after writing your script, you can see what it might look like Your crew, or yourself, will understand what you want.  Depict any planned camera movements or resources you will need.  Helps point out the holes...
